Telescopes at Mt Kent Observatory
-
Webb Telescope: A 40cm aperture f/10 Meade Instruments computer-controlled LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The instrument is used visually for student and amateur viewing nights.
-
O'Mara Telescope: This telescope comprises a Paramount ME robotic mount equipped with a Meade 30cm aperture telescope with Schmidt-Cassegrain optics and an SBIG STL-1301 CCD camera. Accessible over the web, this instrument supports student studies.
-
Uni of Louisville Telescope: A PlaneWave Instruments CDK20 50cm telescope with a large format SBIG STL6303E camera have been installed in a Sirius dome at Mt Kent as part of a University of Louisville educational project funded by NASA. USQ is a partner in this project. During their school day, school children visiting the Gheen's Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium in Louisville are able to remotely drive the telescope and explore the southern night sky. The telescope is also used for research.
